The Streetly Tapes – London

The Streetly Tapes – London

$49.99

That slightly “off” tone is not a flaw. It’s history.

In the early 1970s, the Mellotronics office in London made its own tapes on an Ampex deck at the wrong azimuth, and the duller, more nasal sound ended up on classic albums.

This final volume brings fifteen iconic banks with the London tone, plus twenty super rare tapes from the last of the Streetly archive. 35 banks for M-Tron Pro IV.

It’s immediately evident when playing a GForce instrument that the creators of these plugins are in love with the hardware they emulate. Great sounds coupled with extremely faithful recreations of these classics make these must-haves in your collection.”

The London Tapes

For years, original ‘Tron owners have asked Streetly why their tapes have a distinct character that doesn’t quite match the EMI tape-based Streetly recordings, and why certain classic albums carry the same elusive tone. The answer is a historical quirk. In the early 1970s, with M400 production in full swing at Streetly Electronics, the Mellotronics office in London decided to produce its own tapes. Using an Ampex deck with a standard commercial head, they created tapes with a pronounced guard band and a quiet zone during track blending. The shiny Ampex tape with its black backing didn’t grip the capstan and dragged against the pressure pad, so the machines had to be over-adjusted, giving a heavier keyboard action than intended.

The Final Archive Tapes are the last from the remaining Streetly archives: Caged Piano, Double Bass Low and Octave, Elgar Muted Winds, Holst Woodwinds, McDonald Trio, Mimi Choir, New String Section, Oboe B, Phasey Violin, Ravel Strings and Percussion, Russian Choir, Shimmer Violin, Smooth Choir, Stopped French Horn, Tim’s Plucking Piano, Village Organ in Large, Medium and Small, and Violin Swoops.

The Streetly Tapes London is also available with new purchases of the M-Tron Pro Complete bundle, which includes M-Tron Pro IV and all the Expansion Packs: a superb 13.4GB+ sound library with 560+ tape banks and 3800+ presets.
