John Chowning discovered frequency modulation synthesis at Stanford in the late 1960s, and when it reached keyboards in the 1980s, it changed pop sound overnight. It also earned a reputation as the hardest synthesis to program. Halogen FM is built around a four-operator engine inspired by and modelled after a hidden gem of Japanese FM synthesis, with its own unique tonal character. The depth is all there. The headaches are gone.
